In this video I destroy the myth that Hinduism forbids non-vegetarian diet. I have quoted verses from Ramayana that implies that Lord Ram and Goddess Sita consumed meat. The Vedas have many verses that promote vegetarianism but at the same time there are many verses that shows eating non-veg was common in the Vedic age. Certain verses talk about offering meat to Gods in Yajnas. Even the Hindu law book Manusmriti and ancient Hindu health books Charak Samhita and Sushruta Samhita prescribes non veg diet under certain conditions, however they largely promote vegetarian diet.
Overall summarising from all scriptures it can be logically concluded that eating meat is not forbidden in Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism but Vegetarian diet is promoted. However eating meat is okay if it is necessary for survival or necessary for nutrition or if it is eaten after performing religious sacrifice.
